CATOBLEPAS. His name is one regular Newgroundians admire and revere because of his amazingly edgy flash animations. For four years now, Catoblepas has been a flash animator on Newgrounds and has been the attraction of very little attention in comparison to other animators with his skill. The reason is simple though, his animations call us to watch hideous and gross tales of realism, often with an intelligent underlining thoughts or meanings. Catoblepas is the most underrated artist currently on Newgrounds, a title which, I think, will someday be transformed into most underrated artist of his time. Catoblepas has a scary way of using color to shock and dismay.

Catoblepas surrealistic style has caused viewers to question his sanity and possible drug habits.

From just those two clips alone one can see the talent in his work. If you go back to Blush My Teeth (the second link) and use your cursor, right click the screen and select the forward option, now repeat this a few times to see each frame in motion, if you want to see what animation is all about.

Catoblepas' work is ahead of it's time. A day will come when people of all ages are not scarred by the images in front of them; when the only thing that matters of art is weather or not we find the skill or motion in it exciting or boring. I was amazed that the very first thing to happen was a baby's decapitation. However shocking this all was to me, the fact is that none of it was really happening, or ever will... There's no reason for me to demote the man's work over my horrified nerves.

Keep in mind, if Catoblepas can make all these evil and horrible depictions come to life with his hands, it's very possible he could make anything, good or evil, come to life the same way. Just because YOU don't like his imagination is no reason to condemn his work; someday his work will find the praise it deserves.
